Commenting on parenting, soul-searching, and everything in between... on YOUR blog!

Hello, World!

So. It's kind of strange to be writing this since I'm supposed to be a Non-Blogger.  But I guess since I started a blog, I have to have at least one post, right?!

I think I'll start by writing my ideas for future posts. If I ever actually start a blog, that is.  You see, I'm in deep denial that I want to become a blogger.  I never thought it would be My Thing.

But I have fallen in love with the blog world.  I can't go a single day without checking all of my favourite blogs!  I read many and comment on some.  To be honest, I don't always have the nerve to comment as a Non-Blogger.  I worry that the author may not respect the comments or opinions of someone who does not have her own blog.  Of a stranger who is known only as "ShannonL" without a hyperlink to her website.  So that's the reason for this (non)blog.  To have a home.  A space to call my own, where people can "check me out" when they see a comment from me.  Just like I do when I read a comment that I like.  Here I am, World!  For now, I'm a Non-Blogger but here is a list of things that I might write about someday.  If I do, will I have to change the name of my blog?  Oh, who cares.  I'll stay in denial for as long as I want!  :-)

THINGS I WOULD LIKE TO BLOG ABOUT IN THE FUTURE:
  • My daughter's disability (it's a muscle condition)
  • My son's serious car accident
  • The meaning of friendship
... wait a minute!  I'm not going to add anymore to this list! If someone decides to write about these things, then I'm left with nothing.  Well, I don't think anyone else could write about my son or daughter, but I will keep the other topics under my hat for now.  Not sure when I'll dig them out of the hat, but I have a distinct feeling that this will not be my one and only post on this (non)blog!

I wonder.  How did you get started?  Did you read blogs first, or did you start writing and then discover other blogs?  How many blogs do you read, and do you like to comment?  Tell me everything!

  1. I'm thrilled!! Absolutely thrilled to be your first commenter. What a creative idea, and what a great start. I cannot wait to read more. I really hope you go for it.

Blogging started out as a simple journal for me, and as I discovered how much I got from it, how much the writing and self-exploration helped me, it really just blossomed. Now I feel empty when I don't get a regular opportunity to blog. It fulfills me, as does reading posts by others. It's a very rich, satisfying world! I'm glad you are joining it!!

  4. Thanks Lisa! Like you, I read my friend Christine's "Coffees and Commutes" blog and I was instantly hooked. I couldn't believe how many great bloggers were out there, that made me think and made me smile. Now I have a list of about 25 blogs that I check regularly. You are definitely on that list - I enjoy your posts and I like hearing from another mom who also works outside the home. Thanks for commenting! :-)

  5. Shannon, I love the concept behind your blog. I also got into blogging not knowing where it would lead. I got hooked on reading a few blogs and then started reading the bloggy friends of those bloggers and then one day decided that I wanted to add my two cents as well. (Unlike you, I actually started blogging and commenting at the same time. For some unknown reason I was too intimidated to comment for a long time - which I now find really funny given how friendly I find most bloggers to be.)

Here's hoping you'll find the balance that works best for you - and, from a selfish perspective, I hope that involves your writing more great posts for me to read! :)

  6. Kristin, I'm honoured! Thanks for taking the time to visit and comment on my new little project. I love your blog. Your writing is beautiful and from reading many of your thoughtful comments and replies I can tell that you are a very sweet, sincere person.

It was a little nerve-wracking when I started commenting on blogs, but you're right - everyone has been super-nice. I'm still not sure how far I will go with my blog, but I'm glad I started one. Thanks again!

  7. Hey! How did I miss this?!

Yaaay! I am so glad that you have a home in this strange, strange world. I can't wait to read more from you!

I started my blog over 3 years ago when my brother suggested it. I only had a vague idea of what I was supposed to do. I posted very sporadically and only had 2 readers. It went on like that for quite awhile. I wasn't commited and I'd often forget about it.

When I started writing Letters to Q, things picked up - I wanted to share them and I wanted more people to read them! And then Twitter came along and blogging has taken on a whole new life.

    Have fun!

  8. Thanks for visiting, Sarah! I'm starting to get into it. And I have committed to the 5 for 10 at Momalom, so I hope/think that things will pick up even more after that. We'll see how it goes! :-)

  9. Shannon,

When we started our blog I didn't even know what that meant. We just wanted to write. And now we find ourselves in such wonderful company that I can't imagine ever leaving it all behind, even when I'm so busy in my real life I can barely find the time to write or read any blogs at all.

I'd say you are way, way, way ahead of the game, having been commenting for a while now. And I don't think you should ever feel like someone would ever take you less seriously because you didn't have a blog. It's not about that at all. But, I suppose the point is moot because now you DO have a blog. So YAY! To it all!

And we'll see you on Monday for the start of Five for TEN!
